Team NMS: Let's Ride! |
On a wet May 22nd with the Tidewater Sports Car Club, the NMS FIAT again took first place in the G Street class over a single VW GTI. Over in the Novice part of GS, co-driver Michael Moore continued in his 2nd event and took a nice 16th place out of 21 drivers. For Robert in GS, that makes 3 for 3 in wins with the TSCC, and we'll even tack on the usual FASTEST (and only) ITALIAN CAR OF THE DAY for both Robert and Michael. Here's the unofficial results from GS:
Here's Robert's fastest run of the day:
Rain was the big story of the day, along with this being our first ACU-4 event of 2016. The normally huge driving area was reduced a bit due to maintenance on the concrete area, so that made for a tighter and lower speed course compared to normal at this location. Maybe that helped the smaller cars like the Abarth, but since everyone drove the same course, we all had the same conditions.

Well, other than how wet it was we all had the same conditions! We were working out on the course in the morning for the first run group, and it started clear. Then we had some drizzle. Then for a while, it was downright raining and windy. Then later in the same heat the rain stopped and we saw the concrete start to dry out. Let's just call it Baby Diaper Weather...constantly changing!

By the time the NMS squad drove in the last run group, it was just damp and then it got damper. Not torrential, but hard enough to turn on the windshield wipers on the last run. Given the conditions, we kept the Electronic Stability Control turned on, so maybe that helped us stay on course. Besides that, we still turned on the Sport mode button, and the Bridgestone RE-71R tires did a great job.
