| NMS and friends at the 2026 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona |
Other than working on cars and trucks in the garage, NMS headed down to Daytona for the Rolex 24 Hours for some warm weather spectating, and a visit to the Brumos Collection in Jacksonville. Cars are being prepped for running at CMP in February.
FEBRUARY
We've been to Daytona for a race, went to Rockingham to watch a practice, been to a few Cars and Coffees, so in February NMS finally got to drive on track. During a NASA weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park, Brian ran the 72 Coronet in a test, and Robert drove the Cayman over multiple sessions. No world records were broken, but it's always fun to be on the track! I attended a NASCAR practice day at Rockingham and enjoyed seeing some cars and trucks on track.
MARCH
On the 1st of March, the Carolinas Region of the Porsche Club of America handed out their awards for last year's autocross class winners, with NMS-North taking the trophy for S03 class. Also, since I was the only driver to win all 6 events in their class, I brought home the Driver of the Year award! That's a first for NMS, so thanks to the club for sponsoring Autocross competitions! NMS-North won B Street with the Triad Sports Car Club at their first event at Rockingham, out of 5 drivers. From a field of 127, NMS was 42nd on PAX and 51st on RAW time. The Porsche Club kicked off their season in Greensboro, and NMS again won their class (from 2 other drivers.) Overall, it was 6th fastest from 38 competitors, and 4th quickest Porsche out of 26 P-cars.
APRIL
NMS-North auto-crossed with the Porsche club, taking a class win at Michelin, and 2nd fastest Porsche on the day. NMS-South joined the Bunch of Idiots in their big mean purple 72 Coronet for another Lemons race at CMP, and had a great time at the Friday night Block Party. Unfortunately, during the race the team had just gotten into the lead of Class C, when the engine had what scientists call "a problem" with some pistons and stuff like that. So, with only 26 laps, the team had to call it a day, and start working on any future plans for the purple Dodge. In a non-competitive driving event, NMS-North drove a new Porsche GT4 RS at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, and added this awesome car to his wish list! On a northern trip to visit relatives, NMS also squeezed in a visit to the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg Museum in Indiana, as well as Graham Rahal Performance near Indianapolis.
MAY
The month kicked off with NASA-Southeast and two days on track at Carolina Motorsports Park. NMS-North was driving in DE 3, slapped on some new front brake pads, filled up with new Castrol SRF brake fluid, and finished off the Continental tires, with Hankook RS4s on the way. NMS-South was instructing in DE 1 with a student driver in a 2024 Nissan Z! Awesome!
