NMS F1 Team Sets Record!

So, how'd we do in the first week of Formula 1 Fantasy Racing? Not bad! My main team included the race winner Bottas, and other top 10 finishers Kvyat, Raikkonen, Magnussen. Right now my fantasy team is entered in three leagues, so let's see how we did!

In the Global League of ALL entries around the globe, the first race had 374,921 total entries, and the NMS squad placed 2,675th.

In the Scuderia Ferrari league with 145,333 entries, we're holding down 507th spot, clearly way ahead of nearly 145,000 other wanna-be team owners!

Within the United States of America league, which I guess is all fantasy players that live in the USA, we're sitting in 253rd place out of 32,913 total.

Mostly I'm glad I picked race winner Bottas, and I picked up points with Magnussen as my "turbo" pick, since you can choose one driver that will score double points.

From here on out, we can make one driver switch per race, and then twice in the season you can swap out all your picks if you need to start over. Stay tuned for more, and we'll see if the ol' NMS Fantasy squad can move up in the standings.

If you want to get in on the action, head over to F1 OFFICIAL WEBSITE and enter your fantasy picks now! Good luck!

NMS Announces Formula 1 Team for 2019!

In a few hours the new season of Formula One starts in Australia, and in this EXCLUSIVE scoop on the NMS blog, we're announcing the formation of not one, not two, but THREE new Formula 1 teams that will be competing this season at the highest level of motorsport!

To have a real Formula 1 team you'd need several hundred engineers, mechanics, drivers, and support staff, along with several hundred MILLION dollars to pay them and build the cars. However, thanks to NEW GROUNDBREAKING TECHNOLOGY, the NMS team is now able to run three teams at once, from the comfort of their own home. I mean, from the comfort of their NMS-North World Wide Motorsports Headquarters located in the Empire State on a lengthy body of land entirely surrounded by water, AKA: Long Island.

Have we split the atom? Robbed a bank? Bought out a bankrupt trio of racing teams? Bribed the FIA judges to allow us to race three teams?

No, we just entered the OFFICIAL FORMULA ONE Fantasy on-line competition! Ha, you didn't really think we had enough money to buy a team did you? Of course you didn't! If you played Fantasy Football or Rotisserie Baseball, then you know how this works. Pick a team of drivers and one constructor, based on their value and a given budget, and results from the real racing will give you points based on their performance. After each race you can swap out one driver or your constructor. Beyond that, they have some kind of scoring for beating your team-mate and other trivial contests, but I'd have to read the rules to figure that stuff out!

So, here's a look at the NMS-North fantasy F1 teams. We'll see how they stack up against thousands of other players around the world in the months to come. Last year we pretty much stunk up the joint in this game, but with so many entries we still beat thousands of people. Kind of like our driving, as long as LOT of people are driving, we'll likely beat someone!

TEAM ONE

My first team above features Bottas, Kvyat, Magnussen, Raikkonen, and Vettel. I picked Red Bull for my team since I spent a lot to get Vettel and Bottas, but figured I better have one Mercedes and one Ferrari driver to score big points. Those two teams should be the best this year, and starting with this first race in Australia we'll find out.

TEAM TWO

Above is team two, and to save driver money I didn't pick any Ferrari drivers, and went with Verstappen, Bottas, Grosjean, Raikkonen, and Kvyat. Similar drivers to team one, but by saving money I could afford the expensive Ferrari here. Hopefully this pays off, and this team should score better than team one.

TEAM THREE

OK, my final team (you can only pick three), and I went for the 5 time champ and most expensive driver Hamilton, saved money on Ferrari #2 LeClerc, and got some bargains like Norris, Magnussen, and Gasly. Based on real qualifying, rookie driver Norris surprised everyone and put his McLaren into the top ten, so this could be an awesome point scoring deal for yours truly! Money wise I still spent a lot with Hamilton, so went with probably the best bang-for-the-buck team of Haas, which is looking good since both their drivers qualified in the top ten and should be bringing me huge points!

Stay tuned for some updates on these teams, and I'll be honest and show you how many hundreds of thousands of other fantasy players outscore me! You can sign up yourself at any time this season at

Formula 1 Kicks Off Down Under!

NMS F1 Fans Show Their Support for the Rich Energy Haas F1 Team
(AKA: we wear their hats)
The 2019 Formula 1 season starts THIS WEEK, so now that NASCAR and IndyCar have already revved up, we'll be back into the full racing season in no time! Maybe it's just a coincidence that F1 starts Sunday on the same day as St. Patrick's Day, and whichever reason you use to celebrate, this should be a good weekend.

Formula 1 of course takes place all around the globe, so the opener in Australia is just one of several races that take place in the middle of the night for those of us in the US. So, get some rest starting now, fire up your recording device, or just go for the gusto and get up (or stay up) if you want to watch the races live.

Since last year, in the US we now get the SKY broadcast from Great Britain, and all the races will be shown live on either one of the many ESPN channels or on ABC. If you want even more coverage, we can highly recommend the F1 TV app, which costs a few dollars, but will cover all the races and be streaming on the Internet, complete with various screens if you want to choose your own camera view, view more of the track-side data, or in other words, are just a huge fan. More info on the official F1 website: F1

One of the quirks of the schedule happens Thursday, when you can catch the first practice from Australia at 9PM Eastern! After that it gets tougher, with the next practice session at 1AM, but at least the opening 90 minutes of practice is before my bedtime!

Here are the TV listings for the F1 2019 opening races on ESPN. To properly prepare for Australia and China, I also suggest you go to bed now!

Clash in the Carolinas!

Brian Gets the BMW Tech Inspected at ZMax
SCCA and NASA Specify How Large Your Numbers Need to be, and Brian
SUPERSIZED Them!

Last weekend the NMS squad piled into the 2011 BMW and fought for team bragging rights over two days of autocross competition in the Carolinas. When the dust settled on Sunday, we discovered that the 335is is a fun car to drive, has enough power to spin out if you get it wrong, and that somehow NMS-South was faster on both courses! Congrats to Brian for clearly being the faster driver, in his own car, so until we can get a rematch in the NMS-North FIAT, well, whatever!

Brian on the Starting Line
SCCA Autocross National Champion Geoff Zimmer Says "GO"

Saturday we were at ZMax in Charlotte, which is one of the larger parking lots we have autocrossed in the past seven years, so it was a good match up for the BMW. Right off the bat on my first run I knew I was in trouble, with a big 360 spin due to too much right foot power! However, I still managed to finish that run without a penalty, other than the incredibly slow 79 seconds it took to hit the finish line! By the end of the fourth run I’d gotten down to 66.994, which is a big improvement, but compared to Brian’s 62.784 it still wasn’t so hot! Brian was solidly in 2nd place for our class, while my time was just beaten out of 3rd by a yellow Porsche Cayman on his final run, by 0.283. Overall, a great way to spend a day, topped off with BBQ for dinner at Lil’ Pigs in Columbia!

Sunday had some rain in the forecast for Darlington, but we didn’t get any raindrops until AFTER we’d finished driving! On the way eastward on I-20 we survived some heavy fog and a bridge out to get to the track on time, and day two of the NMS battle for world supremacy. Surely, I could do better on the smaller and tighter course in South Carolina and salvage some bragging rights on the weekend. At least that’s what I though!
After Driving: Working on Course, of Course

However, Brian once again emerged victorious, and the best I could do is 2nd place in STU class while Brian was fighting the best drivers in the Pro class. Second place sounds good, and it sounds better than “last” since there were only two cars in my class, so I’m going with 2nd! Brian also managed to complete all runs without hitting any cones both days, while I guess I “won” this category by hitting two cones on Sunday. After moving away from the South Carolina Region in 2014 it was fun to see some familiar faces and cars too.

Probably the Coolest Car We Spotted, a Lancia at Darlington

So, for me it was a really fun weekend in warmer-than-NY-weather, I ate some great BBQ at three different places, and driving the BMW was a blast. For my first autocross events of 2019, no great results, but plenty of good times. Out of 72 drivers on Sunday I managed exactly halfway by placing 36th on RAW time, and better than half with 34th place in PAX time. Brian was way ahead of me in those categories, but of course, if you’re driving your own car, well, you should be faster! Sounds like a good excuse to me anyway!
