Last Minute Cars and Coffee

350 HP "Turbo Fire" Corvette Power!

Sunday August 29th I was really looking forward to watching the Formula 1 race on TV from Spa in Belgium. The weekend was wet, and qualifying and practice was mixing things up with a few drivers out of place due to the tricky track. Williams George Russell nearly pulled off a stupendous pole position, but was beaten by Max Verstappen. Still, Russel was going to start the race in 2nd place, an awesome achievement for the Williams team that has struggled just to score points for a few years.

Well, weather happened (rain), and basically the race wasn't held as normal. Just to meet the bare minimum to qualify as a race, they ran two laps behind a safety car, and called it a day, even after a 3 hour delay. It was just too rainy in Belgium. On the good news side, George Russell claimed 2nd and his first podium in F1, so congrats to him, the Williams team, and the fans that sat in rain all day! History wise, that was the shortest (2 laps) race ever in F1, going back to 1950. F1 will return next Sunday from just up the road in Holland.

So with the race being rain delayed, I took a quick trip to the local Sunday Cars and Coffee and saw just a few nice cars. Maybe the few drops of rain we had locally kept everyone away, but at least there were a few folks to talk with and cars to view! Stay dry!

Would you prefer a Mercedes 380SL...

Or the Mercedes 560 SL?
Hint, the 560 has a larger engine!

I liked this dark green Corvette

Yes, I definitely like this dark green on a Corvette!

BMW 325i, nice interior!

Thunder at the Glen 2021!

Photo by Wind Shadow Studio, thanks to NASA NE

Way back in the 2019 pre-Covid era, NMS and friends met up at Watkins Glen and had a great weekend on track with the NASA Northeast group in the fall. Guess what? We're putting the band back together, and heading for the NASA NE "Thunder at the Glen" in 2021 too! Way up in NY is a long haul for NMS-South and friends, but the Glen is just worth it! Plus, it will be Columbus Day weekend, although not everyone gets a day off on Columbus Day. I'm looking forward to this weekend in the Cayman, and ideally applying my lessons learned from 3 days at the Glen in July.

Car Spotting

Happy Saturday! I figured that the day before Hurricane Henri comes to Long Island that I should get out of the house, just in case we lose electricity or the entire island gets submerged! I drove by the nearby high-end shopping center Americana Manhasset, and here's a few sightings. Just another day in NY. Part 1: Ferrari

Magnifico parking, both cars inside the lines!

I liked the red wheel center caps too!

Similar, but not the same, different lights, rear end, tailpipes.
You can see the awesome Camry parked between two SUVs in the background.

Just another white Ferrari

And of course the yellow Ferrari has the yellow center wheel caps.

Part 2: Porsche

The all electric Taycan, this is a 4S model! I'd only seen them at the dealership.

A 4 door all electric Porsche, SHAZAM!

Porsche Panamera 4S Executive
Lists at $99,700

EXECUTIVE!

Part 3: Here's something you don't see every day medley

I've spotted this Dacia in my neighborhood, it's very funky!

There under the Stop sign, a generic black SUV?

Not generic, the Lamborghini Urus!
For those who need a twin turbo V8 SUV that will go 190mph.

I think you can see a family resemblance with the VW, Audi, and Porsche SUVs

Rolls Royce

I noticed that all four wheels had the RR logo upright, so I'm guessing that they
are built to always be like this when you park.

The classic "Spirit of Ecstasy" ornament
How about something the rest of us can afford? The new Ford Bronco Sport!
Parking on the line again.

Part 3: THIS? or THAT? Which car would you prefer, of the two parked side by side?

Would you prefer yellow or red in your Ferrari?

SUV battle; Hummer H2 or AMG G-Wagon 63 AMG?
If you buy one of these, please try to park inside the parking space. Thanks!
The 2021 G-Wagon starts at only $156,000 or so.

This is a harder choice, I think it's the same model of Tesla.
On the left, no roof rack and orange NY plate.
On the right, roof rack, white NY plate.
Both are charging up, there's a Tesla test drive place here.

What's Your Dream Car Show?

How about a car show that is actually titled the "Dream Show?" Well, then Farmington Connecticut, specifically the Farmington Polo Club on Sunday August 22nd is where you want to be! If you need another great reason to visit this awesome show, the event is held in support of the charity The Hometown Foundation.

If there is clear weather this will be a great event, HOWEVER...now it looks like Hurricane Henri will be visiting the area all weekend so it just might be pretty darn wet! Check your local weather folks for info.

Up north here at NMS-North we don't have any driving events until September, so to satisfy that automotive itch we headed out to our local Cars and Coffee in Manhasset NY.
