The June autocross with the Carolinas Region Porsche Club of America was at the Greensboro NC Coliseum. The weather folks predicted rain coming in during the afternoon, so the club did a great job of kicking things off early, and everyone still got 8 chances to drive the course without getting wet.

This course was on a square parking lot that had a bit of up and down camber to it, lots of twisty parts, and a tricky finish. The asphalt pavement was just a bit gritty, so combined with the tight nature of this course my top speed was maybe 45mph. As a contrast, I saw a video of another event held elsewhere the day before where the driver hit 72mph on a much larger course. That is pretty darn fast for an autocross event.

Anyway, I posted the 4th fastest time on the day out 39 total cars, and also 4th fastest of the 29 total Porsches. Usually it seems like there's a really fast Corvette, Camaro, Golf, or other cars that are faster than me, so I was happy to outrun some Corvettes and all the non-Porsches this time. In my SO3 class of only two drivers, I managed first place.

The fastest time of the day went to Porsche Boxster Spyder, and he smoked the rest of us by a couple seconds with a 43.874 time. However, 2nd thru 5th places were very close, all covered by approximately 0.3 tenths of a second! That was some fun competition right there!
Looking at the top 10 fastest cars, they ranged in horsepower from my lowest 265 up to the Porsche GT4 RS with 493! Of course horsepower isn't everything on a short and twisty course, so I'm feeling pretty good with my placing against the higher powered cars. Lucky for me it wasn't a straight drag race where horsepower and torque win the day! Here's a video on YouTube of one of my runs:
For the PCA season, we've completed 4 of the 6 events for this year, and NMS holds first place in class, with 3 wins in my 3 events. With the heat of North and South Carolina, we're taking off for July and August, so the final two events will come up in September and October.
