FIAT Barchetta! These are over 25 years old, which means you COULD import them to the USA! They were built from 1995-2005. |
The NMS-North team just got back from a holiday in Amsterdam, and not only does the Netherlands have their own language, different food, and tons of public transportation, there are all kinds of different cars over there! We saw a few pickup trucks, but not a lot, so it was a bit different than South Carolina! I didn't go out of my way to shoot pictures of all the Seats, Renaults, and other brands we don't have, but a few unique cars caught my eye. Here's a look at some vehicles that you may not find in the USA. A few of these cars I might have seen or read about before, but most of these are all new to me.
| I had to look this one up, it's a Ligier JS RC micro-car, that pays tribute to the Ligier cars that raced in Formula 1 decades ago! These little cars were built 2012-2016, |
| Ligier raced in F1 from 1976-1996. This was definitely a new one on me! |

Gas prices in the Netherlands? Glad you asked! 1.89 Euro per liter, so my math of about 4 liters per gallon, and the Euro to Dollar conversion, tells me that gas in Amsterdam here was around $9 a gallon! Needless to say, we did not drive. Oh we got around, but we walked, took a train, took a ferry boat, rode the city tram, used an Uber, and took a night time canal tour on another boat. Yeah, we got around but we didn't rent a car and pay 9 bucks a gallon! |
FIAT Barchetta. It's hard to tell, but this is the rear view! Barchetta is Italian for "little boat." |
| A Ford Ranger Raptor. Besides this truck, I think I saw about 3 or 4 other trucks in more than a week. |
| In Amsterdam, there are a good number of these very small cars that are classified as mobility devices, and they are SMALL. You don't need a license, they are limited to 45 KPH speed, but you can generally park them anywhere as far as I know. |
| Cupra is the brand of car, which is one of the many brands of Volkswagen. It used to be a sub-brand of SEAT, a Spanish VW brand, but from what I read the Cupra folks are doing great, and looking at expanding to the USA! Hey, it could happen! |
| Another micro-car, this is a JDM Abaca. Even using Google I had trouble finding out much about this company. Originally JDM Simpa, later known as JDM Automobiles, they built these small cars starting in the 1980s. One confusing thing about this brand is that JDM usually refers to Japanese Domestic Market cars made in Japan for sale in Japan, which has NOTHING to do with JDM Simpas built in France! Go Figure! |
| OK, maybe one step up from the microcars is this Opel Rocks electric! You can buy a new one in Amsterdam for just under 9,000 Euros. You can drive it if you're only 16. I saw a pretty good number of these little two seaters, and they look great for city driving. |
| I've seen and heard of the Citroen 2CV, but a LIMO VERSION? CRAZY! |
| This one is for sale! On the windshield it says 7,950 Euros, call 0653272142. |
| My guess is that this is a nifty art installation. Either that or a great practical joke to play on your friends! |
| I was getting a photo of this micro-car when the guy in the bicycle covered with lights rode by. Just another evening in Amsterdam! |
| In a grocery store parking lot I saw this and thought it was a big Mini Cooper. But no, it's a London Electric Cab! |
That would be an expensive taxi ride to go from London to Amsterdam for your Dutch food fix, but who knows? Here's their website: LONDON ELECTRIC TAXI
It's an electric MG! The MG Cyberster GT EV Roadster Convertible. Here's a Car and Drive look at it, say $70,000 or so. CAR AND DRIVER
